dc.description.abstract | The oral route is the oldest and most explored route of drug delivery because of the merits such as patient compliance and safety. Controlled-release oral dosage forms have attracted attention since last few decades due to the additional advantage of reduced frequency of dosing, improved bioavailability, and site specificity. Recent technological development in pharmaceutical industry and the development of newer excipients have guided the development of controlled-release formulations. This review has compiled the basics regarding modified drug release dosage forms, polymers for oral-controlled formulations, mechanisms of drug release from oral-controlled formulations, and their classification. Furthermore, important evaluation parameters, including drug release characterization, swelling, erosion, and pharmacokinetic study have been discussed. Solid oral-controlled research dosage form will always be an important drug delivery to provide desired benefits in a cost-effective way. | en_US |
