This paper reports a novel structure to implement band stop filter using fractal type Defected Ground Structure (DGS). The proposed design consists of square shaped defect etched in the ground plane of the substrate. The defect on the ground plane resembles the Sierpinski carpet type fractal geometry. This design is modelled by an equivalent parallel LC circuit. The filter is designed to operate at 300 MHz frequency and is implemented on FR-4 substrate and measures 14 × 14mm 2 . The good agreement between the simulated and measured performance validates the presented technique.en_US
