Cryoscopic measurements have been carried out in formamide for 30 1 : 1 electrolytes in the concentration range 0.002 to 0.25 mol kg-1. Activity coefficients (y±) for all the electrolytes have been evaluated using a modified Lewis-Randall equation. For comparison between electrolytes, activity coefficients at 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.10 mol kg-1 have been computed from the plots of y± against molality. Higher activity coefficients of the electrolytes in formamide than in water indicate the superior “ dissociating ” power of formamide.en_US
