The kinetics of the slow oxidation of formic acid by aquomangancsc(IIl) ions in aqueous perchlorate media show that intermediate complexes arc present; three complexes arc postulated to explain the variation of rate with acidity, and enthalpies and entropies of formation arc found for two of them. Energies and entropies of activation arc calculated for the decomposition of all three complexes, and these arc discussed in relation to the structure of the transition states.en_US
