Abstract: | The solvation of electrons in pure hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPT) has been observed by transient infra-red absorption following pulse radiolysis. Addition of biphenyl (ϕ2) and anthracene (A) provided evidence of scavengeable electrons, the yield corresponding to a G-value of about 2. The relatively high yield and the very low binding energy of solvated electrons in HMPT are ascribed to the polar and aprotic basic nature of this solvent. |
