Abstract: A new diffusion cell has been developed which incorporates all the features of one recently described by Carson et al., together with those of the classical cell of Loschmidt. Binary diffusion coefficients are reported for the concentration dependences of the systems He + Ne, He + Ar, He + Kr, He + Xe, and Ne + Ar at 300 K and one atmosphere pressure, and the first four terms of the Chapman–Cowling solution of the Boltzmann equation for isothermal diffusion are used to compute values for the parameters of the Lennard–Jones (12 – 6) potential. These parameters are compared with those of Van Heijningen et al., and also those of Hogervorst. It is believed that our diffusion coefficients D12 have a precision of ± 0.2 %.
