A number of methods of evaluating partial molal volumes from experimental density/composition data for binary systems are considered. Systematic analysis of density data for four binary systems involving water and a second hydrogen bonding component, using analytic expressions compatible with the partial molal volumes being expressed as truncated power series in mole fraction or weight fraction, shows that functions in the latter variable provide a more efficient description than those in the former.en_US
