The application of approximation methods to the solution of systems of non-linear differential equations, of the type found in complex reaction mechanisms, has been considered. Two methods of deriving the approximations are considered in detail, and the possibility of obtaining approximate solutions as the reaction nears completion, has been investigated. Series solutions for five generalised types of complex systems are given and the derivation of rate constants using the series solutions are briefly considered.en_US
