The hydration and dimerization of some aliphatic carboxylic acids have been studied by partition. Monomer monohydrate, dimer mono- and tri-hydrates have been formed in benzene contacted with water. The formation constant of the monohydrates of monomeric and dimeric acids is related linearly to the acidity of acids.en_US
