The self-diffusion coefficients of water in pure water and in aqueous electrolyte solutions have been measured by using the sintered glass diaphragm cell technique with 2H and 18O as tracers. The extrapolated value from 2H tracer data, 2.27 × 10–9 m2 s–1, agrees with the value from 18O tracer data which is less sensitive to tracer concentration. In most electrolyte solutions investigated, no significant isotope effect in water diffusion was observed.en_US
