Abstract: This paper compares the steady state gain based Relative Gain Array (RGA) and bandwidth dependent effective RGA (ERGA) in analyzing dynamic process interactions and making loop pairing decisions. The results are compared with the pairing recommendations based on frequency dependent dynamic RGA (DRGA). Two examples are considered: one in which both traditional RGA and ERGA gives the correct pairing recommendation and the other in which the traditional RGA and ERGA suggests different pairing recommendations particularly in the frequency range of interest. The calculations pertaining to analysis of control loop pairing is performed using MATLAB (version 7.0.1). The first example uses 2x2 transfer function distillation column model and the second one uses 3x3 transfer function model
