Abstract:
In this chapter, an explanation of the current and changing landscape of the global robotic surgery industry is discussed. It also uncovers a brief introduction to the innovations that are expected to take place in this industry, such as integration with artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of telepresence. The chapter also suggests how AI is going to be used in the future to automatically collect patient history using facial recognition, which can aid the surgeon in planning the preoperative map, combine various scans, and overlap them to form a final image, among others. Nevertheless, the study acknowledges the fact that the current usage of AI is only in the primary stage, and that paramount skill diffusion and concentrated effort are required to make AI practicable in medical healthcare. The chapter sheds light on the future growth aspects of robotic surgeries and the limitations of the existing ecosystem that hinder the adoption of the same. The information revealed in this white paper has been gathered by secondary research from various official websites, articles, publications, and surveys; and using primary research from the doctors, surgeons, consultants, and the manufacturers of robotics-assisted surgery (RAS) devices.
