dc.description.abstract The use of perfumes in everyday life has become quintessential for aesthetic effects, with an increased demand in several markets such as food industries, cosmetics, and toiletries. The aroma present in perfumes is obtained naturally through volatile oils. These volatile oils are formulated using organic or inorganic solvents. Perfumes formulated in organic vehicles such as ethanol have a number of side effects such as skin irritation, high evaporation rate, short-lasting fragrance, poor chemical stability, and deterioration by environmental oxygen, heat, and light. Also, the perfumes formulated traditionally have a quick-release pattern from the solvent, which shortens the life of the fragrance in these traditionally formulated perfumes. As perfumes are gaining importance in day-to-day life, it is necessary to overcome these challenges and develop a formulation that has a better benefit profile. Encapsulation of the aroma can be a possible solution that can prevent the loss of fragrance whilst maintaining the controlled release pattern. Nanotechnology is one of the most promising technologies in cosmetics, with approaches such as developing nanoformulations and employing strategies to encapsulate the fragrance can be one of the most suitable approaches. Nanoperfumes can be developed using different formulation strategies, being available as nanoemulsion, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs), and polymeric-based nanoperfumes. This chapter focuses on the encapsulation of perfume actives and developing formulations of nanoperfumes. Furthermore, here we will be discussing adopting different nano-platform strategies for nanoperfumes, their specific method of preparations, and characterization along with discussing the perfume oils and excipients that are used for the formulation of nanoperfumes. en_US
