Abstract:
The vapour pressures of the lithium+methylamine system have been determined as a function of
metal concentration between —55 and + 5°C. The activity of methylamine deviates positively from
Raoult’s law at low metal concentrations and then negatively with increasing metal concentrations,
in a similar way to that in metal + ammonia solutions. The results obtained are discussed using a
simple model, in which solutions arc considered as consisting of metal atoms solvated by several
methylamine molecules and free methylamine molecules.
