Diffuse reflectance optical spectra of Cu/A12O3 catalysts measured over the range 300-2000 nm are presented which clearly show both octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated cupric ions. Earlier work which had overlooked the 4-coordinate Cu2+ ions is discussed.
