Abstract:
This paper reports a comparative investigation of different pulse shapes for optical transmission among Gaussian, super-Gaussian and soliton pulses under the effect of dispersion, fiber loss and initial chirp. MATLAB is used for this investigation. All the three pulses are characterized for both the normal and anomalous dispersion. The analysis shows that the soliton pulse outperforms the Gaussian and super-Gaussian pulse in the presence of dispersion, fiber loss and initial chirp.
