An Assessment of Some Ethical Challenges to Employee Privacy and Consumer Privacy in the Business World
(International Journal of Research in Business Studies, 2022-12) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
Privacy is essential to individuals as it gives them space to be themselves without judgement and discrimination. Employers collect information about employees, and ethical issues arise while handling their records, even though there are instances when it is justified. However, employers are responsible for maintaining employee privacy to ensure credibility and improve employee performance. The increased use of the Internet and the boom of big data analytics have raised concerns regarding employee privacy. Internet users, especially consumers, state that they value privacy but obtain much material gain in exchange for sharing personal information. We assess the contentious issues that arise in these areas to argue that protecting privacy is a moral imperative and requires ethical sensitivity and support of the legislation. For this purpose, we delve into ethical approaches and the principles of protecting online privacy. We come to the view that protecting privacy in the workplace requires a coordinated moral solution between many parties.

Consumerism and Non-Rational Persuasion in Marketing and Advertising: A Perspective from Business Ethics
(International Journal of Research in Business Studies, 2019-06) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
Business is an economic activity of making, buying, selling or supplying goods or services. Marketing and Advertising are the two important business practices that enable the contact between the seller and the buyer for a market transaction of goods and services. Both parties in the transaction of goods and services prefer to give up something of value in return for something that they value more. However, in the competitive business world, the marketers do at times overstep the ethical boundaries to achieve the market transaction. In view of this, I have made an ethical assessment of some issues in marketing and advertising pertaining to the need for free and fair market transaction that gets disrupted because of manipulative and deceptive practices in general and non-rational persuasion of children through television advertisements in particular

An Ethical Analysis of a Conflict in Seller-Buyer Relationship in the Marketplace: An Aristotelian Perspective
(International Journal of Research in Business Studies, 2020-06) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
The overlapping concerns of business and professions are increasingly becoming commonplace because more and more business considerations pertaining to for-profit are entering into the working of professionals and professional organizations. Earlier business considerations in the practice of professions were confined to, for example, engineering and media organizations but with the passage of time such considerations have also entered into the provision of certain medical facilities and educational institutions. With the result, the possibilities of ethical conflicts in the working of businesses and professional organizations are not only on the rise but appearing to be more and more a cause for problem-situations. The reason being the primary ethical obligation in business is owed to the owner or the shareholders whereas in professional organizations such an ethical obligation is owed to the client or the community. The difference in primary ethical obligations leads to various possibilities of ethical conflicts.

An Ethical Appraisal of Higher Education: Assessing Teacher-Student Friendship and Autonomy of Students in the Classroom
(European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2021-06) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
We present in the paper an ethical appraisal of higher education focusing majorly on relevance and requirements of practicing democratic principles in higher education. We assess in this endeavor two ethical issues, namely teacher-student friendship, and autonomy of students in the classroom and argue for ethical infeasibility of teacher-student friendship and need for protection of autonomy of students. In connection with the latter, we argue for ethical restrictions on a teacher’s advocacy of views because advocacy of views may unjustifiably lead to maintaining one’s own position to elicit students’ agreement in a topic of academic study in humanities and social sciences.

Green Communication: Let the Corporate Walk the Talk
(SSRN, 2021-06) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj; Chouhan, Gajendra Singh
Is the green wave in business for real, or is it just a corporate alibi? Voices of refusal and disbelief arose in response to corporate communication often indicate some inconsistency between the ethical promises of such campaigns and the reality of their business. Today, ‘green’ and ‘sustainable’ are marketing buzzwords. Marketers are using the terms and catch phrases they think consumers want to hear to feel better about their purchase. When it comes to natural resources and environment, corporate don't speak to consumers in a language they understand, undermining green behaviour. With society becoming more environmentally conscious, green corporate behaviour is becoming increasingly more widespread and demanding, businesses are planning to incorporate green initiatives into their everyday work environment. The paper signifies that corporate are to be transparent and sensible in dealing with environment, communicating with consumers and recognizing the human capital, in return, not only will our planet be pure and pollution free but our manpower competent and competitive globally. Sustainable consumption is the ‘new staple diet’ for today’s world and better tomorrow. Corporate are to realize their responsibilities and must initiate a mass green awareness movement, inspiring consumers towards a more sustainable way of living. The authors feel that every corporate should respond to the call of ‘return to nature’ and bring about this positive change that would benefit their own bottom-line while protecting the planet to be more green. The paper discusses various cases and HR practices that may act as the agent of change and facilitate our way of life for sustainable planet.

    Morality, Good Life, and Selflessness
    (Brill, 2013) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
An attempt is made in this paper to assess the relationship between morality and human life. This is argued that such an assessment requires a change in perspective from right conduct that is pervasive in the large part of liberal moral theory, to good life. This is only such a perspective change that makes the transfiguration of morality within human life of narrative unity and integrity possible. The perspective of good life is proposed to be based on the adoption of a higher order attitudinal stance ± the stance of selflessness. The argument begins with the perspective of right conduct in order to prove its inadequacies and secondly the perspective of good life is put forth to show that the object of morality is the whole human life ± life in its full unity.

A philosophical defense of ecological sensitivity in the business world
(Mid Win, 2021) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
An attempt is made in the paper to analyze the nature of virtue of ecological sensitivity to argue for its relevance and need in the business world. Ecological sensitivity is a virtue or quality of a human being to relate himself to the environment in a protective spirit of oneness. It is not a virtue by extension from human to environment like compassion or empathy but a virtue of independent normative standing since it is argued to be equal to other personal and inter-personal virtues in the pool of virtues to live a good human life. It is further argued that since ethics is a study of values and virtues to live a good human life and business companies are a great source to sustain and improve upon the state of mankind in the world and the condition of planet earth itself, it makes sense to emphasize the need to include ecological sensitivity as a virtue in the conduct of business professionals. It also attempts to understand how the business professionals ought to interpret ecological sensitivity in and around their surroundings on a daily basis.

Virtue-Based Compatibility of Business and Profession
    (IAFOR, 2016) Sachdev, Kumar Neeraj
It is widely believed that ethical obligation in business is owed to stockholders, who are the investors but in the practice of a profession such an ethical obligation is owed to clients or community. The apparent conflict in the nature of ethical obligation is clear but it is also true that both business and profession cannot be separated as for instance engineering and journalism are businesses or today even many educational institutions and medical facilities are businesses. It appears to be ethically important then to examine the conflict in the nature of ethical obligation as such and to elucidate the nature of conflict resolution in the light of virtue-based view of business. In this regard, an analysis of virtue-based approach to business and profession begins with the nature and practical applications of virtue ethics and goes on to examine and propose certain ethical reasons based on virtue-based analysis of real-life cases to spell out the revised stakeholders's view of business to establish the compatibility of business and profession.
