Item An analysis of the psychological implications of covid-19 pandemic on undergraduate students and efforts on mitigation(Springer, 2022-02) Rao, Shreyas SureshThe whole world is combating the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected mankind in enormous ways. To limit its pervasive expansion, many measures were taken up by the Indian government, as a result of which colleges were closed, and education was imparted through the online mode. The pandemic has induced psychological strain in the minds of students. The present study analyses the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on engineering undergraduates in south India, who are in the age group of 19 to 22. A survey from 365 students was analyzed during the second wave of COVID-19. Data revealed that although there is an overall increased awareness about the outbreak, there is a considerable inclination towards depression, anxiety, and stress in students. Amongst the participants, 116 (31.78%) screened positive for depression, 79 (21.64%) for anxiety, and 53 (14.52%) for stress. Besides, 46 (12.60%) participants had comorbid conditions, with moderate, severe, or extremely severe levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. The Center of Excellence in AI&ML at the study center implemented a multilingual chatbot to provide mental health support during the pandemic and deployed the bot in Facebook and Web modes.Item Introducing ISAP and MATSS: mental stress induced speech utterance procedure and obtained dataset(Elsevier, 2022-11) Phartiyal, Gopal SinghMental stress persisting for long can cause severe health issues. There are various approaches available in the literature for investigating stress through speech utterances. The available procedure to obtain speech under stress dataset requires the speakers to undergo the actual stress situations in a real environment with limited control or inducing stress with a mental task in a lab environment. These approaches either suffer from ethical issues or unreliable labeling of the obtained speech samples. In this paper, we attempt to overcome these limitations with Induced mental Stress based speech production And labeling Procedure (ISAP), for obtaining speech utterances under mental stress along with labeling the samples simultaneously. The proposed ISAP can be incorporated by future studies as per their need to create a speech under stress dataset. We also present the obtained dataset, the baseline experiments, and classification results with various machine learning models. A total of 1260 speech utterances are obtained, with ISAP able to induce stress in 54.4% of the cases. The accuracy of the SVM classifier in recognizing three stress classes, namely, No Stress, Low Stress, and High Stress is found to be 57.1%.Item Hazardous Health Impact of Virtual Education during COVID-19(Journal of Scientific Research and Reports, 2021) Debata, ByomakeshThe rapid spread of COVID-19 compelled the infected nations to close down their educational institutions to check the rigor of spread. In such context, to provide uninterrupted education to the students, virtual education through internet was widely adopted. This paper throws a light on how the students engaged in virtual education are exposed to various unexpected health perils due to the use of internet and smartphones. Moreover, this paper suggests taking a holistic approach through the introduction of “Yoga” in the course curriculum to avoid the unexpected health hazards.Item Statistical Study of the Yoga on Mental Health among Children of the Residential School(IJAPRR, 2015) Shekhar, ChandraThis paper summarizes the statistical evidence on the effects of yoga interventions on various components of mental health. Tension, stress, anxiety, depression or traumatic experiences are some mental illness. Adolescence is a stage in one’s life when a variety of mental health problems are more likely to develop. In the present study, yoga has been shown to be effective in reducing mental imbalance conditions. We perform our study over school children of age group 8-14 of Birla Education Trust’s residential school at Pilani. We involve 276 male and female students from Birla Public School, Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Birla School for an experiment. Different tests are conducted before and after yoga to measure mental status and results are compared statistically. All inferences are depicted in tables and conclusions are drawn in the last.Item Positive Psychology & Economic Development: Reckoning Linkages, Needs & Agenda.(Concept Publisher, 2015) Choubisa, RajneeshItem Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) : Psychometric Harmony, Divergence and Deviations for Indian & Czech Cultures(International Journal of Psychology, 2016) Choubisa, RajneeshWe collected data from the Czech (n=175) and Indian (n=399) participants and conducted principal component analysis on the datasets. The Cronbach's alpha reliability statistics were found to be .90 and .82 for the Czech and Indian samples respectively and matching the international standards. As far as the factor solution is concerned, a total variance of 64.26% was explained by the Czech sample for a three factor principal component solution with significant cross loadings of scale items of social contribution, social integration, positive relations with others, personal relations, autonomy and purpose in life on hedonic well-being dimension. On the other hand, a total variance of 48.99% was explained by the Indian dataset for a three factor principal component solution whereby significant cross loadings of social contribution, environmental mastery and purpose in life items were seen on hedonic well-being dimension. We also report apparent harmonies, divergences and deviations in both the datasets.Item Understanding the Impact of Advertising on Children and Redefining the Laws of Living in India(2009) Lata, PushpThe objective of this paper is to explore the harmful effects of advertising on children’s mental and physical health. The study includes the analysis and the impact of various advertisements, which appear on television screen in India. It also discusses at length how parents can help their children make better use of media by educating them regarding the susceptibilities of advertisement.Item A study on psychological implications of COVID-19 on nursing professionals(Taylor & Francis, 2021) Rao, Shreyas SureshThe World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as a pandemic on 11 March, 2020, followed by an unprecedented global increase of the disease in recent times. Healthcare workers, including Nursing Professionals (NP), are more likely to experience psychological distress during the pandemic. The purpose of the study is to examine the stress, depression, and anxiety experienced by the nursing professionals in India, who provide care to COVID positive patients.
