In this article, a scheme is discussed to obtain optimal solutions of the parameters for a grid integrated hybrid energy system (HES), consisting of photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines. The parameters considered here are the net area covered by the PV modules and the net area swept by the revolving blades of the wind turbine. The objective of this scheme is minimization of life cycle cost (LCC) of the HES and to ensure its reliability at the same time. Loss of power supply probability (LPSP) is the factor considered to measure the reliability of the proposed system. This paper discusses a fitness function which can be used for the combined optimization of the two objectives. The proposed model uses genetic algorithm (GA) to obtain the best suiting values of the decision variables.en_US
