The fluorescence of 1-pyrene sodium sulphonate solubilised in benzene solutions of cetylbenzyl-dimethylammonium chloride/bromide is quenched by the bromide. The quenching constant is not markedly affected by the addition of water, which hardly dilutes the ionic layer.en_US
