C- lumped circuit model dependent on surface current flow along the strips of via based electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures has been investigated in this paper. The propagating surface waves bounded between the metallic layer and free space are simply ac currents at high frequency which find least resistive path to the ground. This property has been exploited in this work to develop fast and accurate lumped model to determine resonant frequency. The accuracy of the model has been verified by transmission parameter in conjunction with the reflection phase diagram of the EBG structures. The validation has been carried out by comparing the resonant frequency of the earlier reported EBGs.en_US
