Systematic design approach for a new electromagnetic band gap (EBG) cell, operating in MBAN and Wi-Fi band, to suppress surface wave propagation through printed circuit boards (PCB) is reported. A novel technique of tuning the slot width has been adopted to miniaturize the EBG cell in conjunction with LC lumped circuit model to expedite the design and analysis. Size and frequency miniaturization up to 30% and 33% respectively can be obtained using the presented design. The presented investigation also emphasizes on the utilization of the proposed EBG cells to suppress surface waves and electromagnetic interference (EMI) in PCB circuit. To quantify the surface wave suppression, transmission parameter of -20dB between two ends of the PCB has been achieved.en_US
