Development of School Learning Organisation Scale and its Validation in the Indian Context
(ACM Digital Library, 2021-11) Nirban, Virendra Singh; Shukla, Tanu
To achieve the deliverables of the 21st-century learning agendas, the education system needs to innovate itself in a multi-faceted manner, enabling schools as agents of organisational change through innovation, collaboration, empowerment and effective school functioning. A learning organisation model has been proposed based on review of articles suitable for the Indian Education System. Lack of a comprehensive tool assessing the school effectiveness and educational outcomes necessitates development and validation of school learning organisation scale for Indian setting. The current study examines the psychometrics of the school learning organisation (SLO) scale, exploratory factor analyses (EFA) revealed five factors: School Vision, Professional Development of Teachers, Embedded systems, Learning Community & Collegiality and Leadership & Technology Usage. Finally, the proposed model was examined to test its goodness of fit by applying SEM through confirmatory factor analysis.

Envisioning Teacher Accountability through Technology: A Road to Better Learning
(IRES International, 2019) Nirban, Virendra Singh; Shukla, Tanu
Technological advancements and digitalization have increased the scope and extent of usage of technology for various purposes that have enhanced the life skills of individuals. The education system presently faces the challenge to improve students’ outcomes and ensure their well-being. The central figure facilitating the process of dissemination of knowledge, i.e. the Teacher, has an important role to play. The consequential need is to sustain the dignity of the teaching profession by holding the teachers accountable for the responsibilities entrusted on them. Similarly, the parents also play an important role in the education process. The study proposes to address this challenge through a simple web-based platform for communication between teacher, student, and parents making information readily available and accessible. This platform attempts to facilitate teacher quality, accountability, address the needs of the students, improve their learning outcomes and well-being. The implementation of the proposed model would provide several insights helpful in understanding the effect of technology-enabled accountability system on teacher efficacy, parent-teacher communication, student achievement, and student well-being. The framework proposed would examine different aspects of teaching and learning process, and assess teacher deliverables in accordance with the characteristics of students. This framework would also ensure improvement in the quality of life of students in and outside the school.

Evidential insights: factors affecting higher education readiness
(Taylor & Francis, 2023) Shukla, Tanu; Nirban, Virendra Singh
The modern world has transformed industry-education partnerships towards skill-based contributions to society. Productivity emerges as the new indices of harnessing human potential in the current age of science and technology. This need has propelled the need for immediate transformation within the higher education system to imbibe skills and capacities in the transitioning population for preparation towards STEM-dominated higher learning programs. Contrastingly, the current evidence of preparation for higher learning is not strongly situated in the context of the Indian education system. The objective of this paper is to introduce a framework of Higher Education Readiness with the conceptualization of skills that can foster STEM learning in the transitioning young population of India. It aims to investigate the differences in the readiness ability along the demographic lines of gender and spatial reference by using the Higher Education Readiness test. Data from the district with a high literacy rate was collected to address the objectives of the study. The results demonstrate that female students compete equally with male students on performance in Higher Education Readiness abilities yet fail to pursue STEM disciplines in their higher learning programs. The paper is expected to provide the factors associated with readiness for higher education. Based on the data enabled evidence, the findings demand influential changes in the policies related to STEM education for stronger educational management at the secondary level. The findings of the study would help in the transformation of the educational management towards vocationalisation and increasing productivity levels in the learning individual.

Experience and Qualifications: A Study on Attributes of Teacher Professionalism
(ACM Digital Library, 2018) Nirban, Virendra Singh; Shukla, Tanu
Student outcome at the secondary school level is a significant aspect to study as students’ knowledge base is prepared which helps them for stream selection. Therefore, it is essential for secondary teachers to be sound not only academically but also professionally. The fact that teaching needs to be professionalized in order to increase student outcomes seems to be quite obvious, but empirical evidence substantiating this relationship is rare. This study focuses on factors like teachers’ academic qualification, years of experience and professional qualifications. To serve the purpose a random sample was drawn and data was collected from secondary level teachers of Rajasthan. The relationship between academic qualification, experience and professional qualification with teacher professionalism was assessed. Results relate that despite being an important part of teacher professionalism, teachers’ academic qualification and experience does not automatically account for the teacher being a professional, a lesser qualified teacher can be a professional too. Only teachers having a professional degree in education showed a significant difference in professionalism reinstating the importance of professional training of teachers.

Factors Extraction of Effective Teaching-Learning in Online and Conventional Classrooms
(IJIET, 2020-06) Nirban, Virendra Singh; Shukla, Tanu
Integrating technology in education through online courses can enhance the learning experience when coupled with the traditional methods of interaction. Online courses can help in providing access to education to people from remote and marginalized sections of the world. They help in developing critical thinking and increasing the capacities of students necessary for the 21st century. There has been a shift from traditional classroom teaching to teaching in a hybrid or blended manner. An online learning environment creates a potential learning space for students to use technology for effective teaching and learning process. A well-designed learning environment can blend conventional methods with technological innovations for increasing the accessibility and efficiency of the education system. The study collected data from graduate students (N=220) on various determinants of effective online courses and learning. Correlation was used to explore the relationship of the dimensions with the construct of effectiveness. Factor analysis was done and two factors were extracted, namely, student attributes, features of the platform and instructor quality. The findings of the study provide insights for measuring the effectiveness of online courses and initiate measures to handle the challenges to online education.

Citizens' access to health care and the delivery of the healthcare services is significantly affected by the spatiality of the regions and the connectedness of the elements of the healthcare system. This network of healthcare system, region and delivery of services faces myriad challenges in the borderland geography, which is characterised by accentuated military presence, poor physical infrastructure, disinterest of habitation near the border, lack of adequate, necessary and allied services such as schools and industry, social seclusion, migration etc. All these factors amalgamate to create an effect of gender-blind phenomenon as well as border-blind phenomenon. Intercultural Education in Engineering Curriculum: A Review of Communication Courses for Undergraduate Students in India
(Scientific Research Solution Pvt Ltd., 2018) Nirban, Virendra Singh
Intercultural communication in the Indian Information Technology (IT) industry is an everyday reality. Today, many companies are multinational; and those which are not, are still multicultural owing to huge cultural diversity within the nation. However, despite a harmonious coexistence of multiple cultures, the possibility of conflicts resulting from cultural diversity is palpable. Such conflicts, or likes and dislikes, arising out of cultural stereotypes often impede accurate evaluation of a person's communicative intentions and behaviour. This becomes a potential hazard at the professional as well as the personal front. Given that businesses are no more restricted to geographical boundaries, nor are companies hiring manpower from one location, the need to study and cultivate intercultural communication competence (ICC) becomes fundamental to business success. As part of a research work on ICC in the Indian Information Technology industry, this study analyses communication related courses currently being offered to undergraduate (Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology) students of the top ten engineering institutions of India, as identified in the 2017 Rankings by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to see if current academic curriculum is adequately educating students for effective intercultural communication at the workplace. Findings suggest that the importance and need of intercultural education has mildly been realized, but its inclusion in current course curriculum is negligible. Limitations of the study and suggestions on how to introduce ICC in class are discussed.
