Creating a User-Generated Learning Environment through Flipping Classroom: An Experiential Pedagogy
    (ELTAI, 2018-05) Lata, Pushp
Participatory learning improves students’ learning and understanding of the concepts taught in a course. It can prove to be very effective in developing communication skills, higher order cognitive skills and inculcate problem solving ability among students. This kind of teaching learning environment calls for a paradigm shift, that is, to move from the teacher-centered approach to the student-centered approach. For better active learning, flipping the classroom is one of the techniques which can be employed. My work over the years has brought me into thinking heavily about the change of the role of learners from receiver to participant in the whole teaching learning process of a subject. Besides, I acknowledge the drastic shift in the learning aptitude of students due to an easy exposure and accessibility of technology and internet. I therefore, have been experimenting with, blogs, online forums and task based approach activities for collaborative learning from time to time. The flexibility and students’ active participation were the key features which motivated me to try this pedagogy in my classroom. The present study therefore, is an attempt to integrate flipped classroom environment in teaching of Cross Cultural Skills course which is a humanities elective course being offered to the first degree engineering students at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.

Streak of Alienated Identification in Jhumpa Lahiri’s Works
(Atlantic Publishers and Distributors Pvt. Ltd., 2010) Lata, Pushp
The perception of Indian culture outside South Asia has changed radically in the last decade. The success of Indian authors in English fiction writing has reached unprecedented heights. In the last two decades, an increasing number of writers of Indian origin who have flung far and wide across this planet have exploited cultural-interpollination as a significant facet of life. Dislocation and alienation form the dominant themes of these writings. Corollary the style and the content of their writings have been greatly influenced by the extent to which they have been able to identify and adapt to their new surroundings. These writers though moved to the new country for past so many years, still feel alienated in their new country and who tend to write about people, food, and events that are typical of their motherland. They also seem to be anxious to infuse their native color in their writings. For instance, Meena Alexander in The Poetics of Dislocation reminisces about the place of her birth across the Pemba river on the west coast of Kerala, even as she lives in New York close to the Hudson river. She keeps dreaming about climbing a tree in her native town and viewing the scene from above. Thus the feeling of loss, prevalence of longing, and loneliness have been reflected in the works of quite a few emigrant writers. In fact the manifestation of such a disjuncted, defunct and uprooted mood has been so frequent and dominant. Among such Anglo Indian writers living in the western countries, Jhumpa Lahiri is one who has gained immense popularity for her works. For the present study her debut story collection Interpreter of Maladies and her debut novel Namesake have been taken into consideration. The present paper focuses on how all her characters appear tentative and irresolute in their approach to resolve matters like society, culture, ambience and one’s consequent adaptability or lack of it. The present paper also attempts to discover how the writer explores the sense of dislocation and alienation felt with greater intensity in an alien setting

An Exploratory Investigation on Effective Risk Handling Attitudes of Top Business Leaders in Relation to Their Approaches Towards Innovation
    (IJRCM, 2011) Lata, Pushp
Top business leaders are arguably different: in their innovation capabilities, strategy formulation and deployment as well as risk attitudes. The paper makes an attempt to research both quantitatively and qualitatively about the effective risk taking and handling attitudes as well as their innovation approaches. While analyzing such attributes, it was quantitatively confirmed that there is indeed a correlation existing between the two. This is also consistent with logic. There is always a risk which is taken and handled by the top business leaders in implementing something innovative, strategy implementation or product deployment in the form which has never existed before. Qualitative research establishes some deeper connections as well as some of the salient points. The key results of our exploratory research are important, especially for the HR, or R&D organizations, which are trying to recruit leaders and managers at the top management level in their organizations.
