Item Virtue-Based Compatibility of Business and Profession(IAFOR, 2016) Sachdev, Kumar NeerajIt is widely believed that ethical obligation in business is owed to stockholders, who are the investors but in the practice of a profession such an ethical obligation is owed to clients or community. The apparent conflict in the nature of ethical obligation is clear but it is also true that both business and profession cannot be separated as for instance engineering and journalism are businesses or today even many educational institutions and medical facilities are businesses. It appears to be ethically important then to examine the conflict in the nature of ethical obligation as such and to elucidate the nature of conflict resolution in the light of virtue-based view of business. In this regard, an analysis of virtue-based approach to business and profession begins with the nature and practical applications of virtue ethics and goes on to examine and propose certain ethical reasons based on virtue-based analysis of real-life cases to spell out the revised stakeholders's view of business to establish the compatibility of business and profession.Item An Ethical Analysis of a Conflict in Seller-Buyer Relationship in the Marketplace: An Aristotelian Perspective(International Journal of Research in Business Studies, 2020-06) Sachdev, Kumar NeerajThe overlapping concerns of business and professions are increasingly becoming commonplace because more and more business considerations pertaining to for-profit are entering into the working of professionals and professional organizations. Earlier business considerations in the practice of professions were confined to, for example, engineering and media organizations but with the passage of time such considerations have also entered into the provision of certain medical facilities and educational institutions. With the result, the possibilities of ethical conflicts in the working of businesses and professional organizations are not only on the rise but appearing to be more and more a cause for problem-situations. The reason being the primary ethical obligation in business is owed to the owner or the shareholders whereas in professional organizations such an ethical obligation is owed to the client or the community. The difference in primary ethical obligations leads to various possibilities of ethical conflicts.
