    A philosophical defense of ecological sensitivity in the business world

    An attempt is made in the paper to analyze the nature of virtue of ecological sensitivity to argue for its relevance and need in the business world. Ecological sensitivity is a virtue or quality of a human being to relate himself to the environment in a protective spirit of oneness. It is not a virtue by extension from human to environment like compassion or empathy but a virtue of independent normative standing since it is argued to be equal to other personal and inter-personal virtues in the pool of virtues to live a good human life. It is further argued that since ethics is a study of values and virtues to live a good human life and business companies are a great source to sustain and improve upon the state of mankind in the world and the condition of planet earth itself, it makes sense to emphasize the need to include ecological sensitivity as a virtue in the conduct of business professionals. It also attempts to understand how the business professionals ought to interpret ecological sensitivity in and around their surroundings on a daily basis.

    A Critical Assessment Of A Moral Foundation Of Human Rights: A Bentham’s Perspective

    This paper critically analyse Bentham’s ideas of human rights from the perspectives of select thinkers to examine whether they accommodate a moral foundation of human rights. In the critical analysis, we aim to determine first whether Bentham is correctly attributed with the idea of human rights in their writings and second, whether it is possible to infer particular human rights such as the right to freedom, the right to well-being, and the right to equality from his writings.

    Morality, Good Life, and Selflessness

    An attempt is made in this paper to assess the relationship between morality and human life. This is argued that such an assessment requires a change in perspective from right conduct that is pervasive in the large part of liberal moral theory, to good life. This is only such a perspective change that makes the transfiguration of morality within human life of narrative unity and integrity possible. The perspective of good life is proposed to be based on the adoption of a higher order attitudinal stance ± the stance of selflessness. The argument begins with the perspective of right conduct in order to prove its inadequacies and secondly the perspective of good life is put forth to show that the object of morality is the whole human life ± life in its full unity.

    Green Communication: Let the Corporate Walk the Talk

    Is the green wave in business for real, or is it just a corporate alibi? Voices of refusal and disbelief arose in response to corporate communication often indicate some inconsistency between the ethical promises of such campaigns and the reality of their business. Today, ‘green’ and ‘sustainable’ are marketing buzzwords. Marketers are using the terms and catch phrases they think consumers want to hear to feel better about their purchase. When it comes to natural resources and environment, corporate don't speak to consumers in a language they understand, undermining green behaviour. With society becoming more environmentally conscious, green corporate behaviour is becoming increasingly more widespread and demanding, businesses are planning to incorporate green initiatives into their everyday work environment. The paper signifies that corporate are to be transparent and sensible in dealing with environment, communicating with consumers and recognizing the human capital, in return, not only will our planet be pure and pollution free but our manpower competent and competitive globally. Sustainable consumption is the ‘new staple diet’ for today’s world and better tomorrow. Corporate are to realize their responsibilities and must initiate a mass green awareness movement, inspiring consumers towards a more sustainable way of living. The authors feel that every corporate should respond to the call of ‘return to nature’ and bring about this positive change that would benefit their own bottom-line while protecting the planet to be more green. The paper discusses various cases and HR practices that may act as the agent of change and facilitate our way of life for sustainable planet.

Marketing and Advertising are the two important business practices that enable the contact between the seller and the buyer for a market transaction of goods and services. Both parties in the transaction of goods and services prefer to give up something of value in return for something that they value more. However, in the competitive business world, the marketers do at times overstep the ethical boundaries to achieve the market transaction. In view of this, I have made an ethical assessment of some issues in marketing and advertising pertaining to the need for free and fair market transaction that gets disrupted because of manipulative and deceptive practices in general and non-rational persuasion of children through television advertisements in particular

    We present in the paper a brief account of ethics and its theoretical frameworks, focusing in particular on deontological theory. We extend the account of ethics to applied ethics in order to analyze various applications of deontological theory for enhancing the understanding of ethical impermissibility of euthanasia.

    An Ethical Appraisal of Higher Education: Assessing Teacher-Student Friendship and Autonomy of Students in the Classroom

    We present in the paper an ethical appraisal of higher education focusing majorly on relevance and requirements of practicing democratic principles in higher education. We assess in this endeavor two ethical issues, namely teacher-student friendship, and autonomy of students in the classroom and argue for ethical infeasibility of teacher-student friendship and need for protection of autonomy of students. In connection with the latter, we argue for ethical restrictions on a teacher’s advocacy of views because advocacy of views may unjustifiably lead to maintaining one’s own position to elicit students’ agreement in a topic of academic study in humanities and social sciences.
