An application of value stream mapping in auto-ancillary industry: A case study
(Emerald, 2020-01) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh; Jasti, Naga Vamsi Krishna; Kota, Srinivas
Lean manufacturing (LM) plays a major role in eliminating wastes (activities/resources) in a manufacturing organization. Value stream mapping (VSM) is one of the critical tools in LM which will help in identifying wastes in materials and information flow in a specific product family. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the significance of VSM in the auto-ancillary industry in enhancing the productivity and the quality.

A framework for lean manufacturing implementation
(Inder Science, 2016-10) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh
This paper aims at providing a lean implementation framework, which takes into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of the existing frameworks, for easy and effective lean manufacturing implementation by the managers/practitioners. A review of 22 existing lean implementation frameworks has been done to identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing models. A lean manufacturing implementation framework is proposed by leveraging these strengths and mitigating the weaknesses. The novelty of the proposed framework is that it provides easy to understand steps to be followed during pre-implementation, implementation and post-implementation phases for easy understanding and self assessment at critical milestones. It is believed that the proposed lean implementation framework will serve as a guide map to the managers for lean manufacturing implementation. In addition, the proposed framework is simple yet comprehensive in term of coverage: horizontally, it covers the whole supply chain and vertically it starts from lean philosophy awareness creation and ends with rewards for successful implementation.

Lean manufacturing: literature review and research issues
    (Emerald, 2014-07) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh
The advent of recession at the beginning of twenty-first century forced many organizations worldwide to reduce cost and to be more responsive to customer demands. Lean Manufacturing (LM) has been widely perceived by industry as an answer to these requirements because LM reduces waste without additional requirements of resources. This led to a spurt in LM research across the globe mostly through empirical and exploratory studies which resulted in a plethora of LM definitions with divergent scopes, objectives, performance indicators, tools/techniques/methodologies, and concepts/elements. The purpose of this paper is to review LM literature and report these divergent definitions, scopes, objectives, and tools/techniques/methodologies.
