Item Development of lean enterprise implementation methodology: an ISM approach(Emerald, 2021-02) Jasti, Naga Vamsi Krishna; Kota, SrinivasThere is a concern in literature about the critical elements of lean enterprise (LE) that can be represented as pillars of lean enterprise excellence. However, existing frameworks proposed on LE excellence are very few. The purpose of this paper is to develop a relationship model among the pillars of a proposed framework of LE excellence in Indian manufacturing industry by Jasti et al. (2020) with the help of interpretive structural modelling (ISM) and structural equation modelling (SEM).Item Development of a framework for green product development(Emerald, 2015-04) Jasti, Naga Vamsi KrishnaThe concept of “green product development (GPD)” has been emerged as a global phenomenon. The main objective of GPD is to minimize the impact of industrial growth on the environment across the globe. Many researchers have actively contributed articles for developing GPD, but none of them provide direction and guidance for an effective implementation of GPD in organizations. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to identify a comprehensive list of the principles, practices, tools and techniques, and integrate them to develop and propose a new framework for GPD for effective implementation in organizationsItem A multi-attribute decision model for justification of World-Class Maintenance Systems(Inder Science, 2009-04) Mishra, Rajesh PIn recent times, many organisations are failing in their attempt to achieve a world-class status through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) due to various shortcomings. Hence, in our earlier study, a new framework for World-Class Maintenance Systems (WMS) was proposed to overcome some of these shortcomings. Organisations that are planning to adapt World-Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices such as TPM, WMS etc. require proper justification to convince the top management. Hence, in this paper, an application of a Multi-Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) model – namely, the Analytic Hierarchy Binary Model (AHBM) is demonstrated for the justification of WMS. From the extensive analysis of the results, it is found that the WMS is the best among the alternative maintenance systems available.Item A systematic review of the integration of best practices for world class manufacturing(Inder Science, 2021-03) Digalwar, Abhijeet K.Manufacturing organisations are trying to become world class by integrating best practices. While multiple authors have studied world class manufacturing (WCM), no paper consolidates these results. Further certain inconsistencies are found in existing WCM frameworks. A need was therefore felt to clearly identify and define the scope of best manufacturing practices identified from different countries and industries. 173 research papers on WCM were collected from different online databases and reviewed for the purpose of this study. A descriptive analysis was performed to understand the timeline, geographic, author and journal related trends of the papers. Papers were also classified based on content and industry settings. The best practices identified were defined and the popularity of each best practice was evaluated on the basis of number of mentions. The paper finally proposes a new framework for WCM, inspired from the functioning of the human body.Item Development of fuzzy PROMETHEE algorithm for the evaluation of Indian world-class manufacturing organisations(Inder Science, 2016) Digalwar, Abhijeet K.Establishing a performance-oriented evaluation in manufacturing sectors is the key to successful administrations and further improvement. However, because of lacking relative comparable measuring standards, it is difficult to measure the relative performance of one organisation while comparing to other organisations with regard to the multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) of performance evaluation. This paper aims to focus on the evaluation of world class manufacturing (WCM) practices in Indian manufacturing sectors. The algorithm in this paper is based on the concept of fuzzy set theory and the PROMETHEE. This algorithm is then applied to three heavy engineering sector organisations in India. These organisations are ranked according to their WCM practices.Item Role of knowledge management in world class manufacturing: An empirical investigation(IEEE, 2011) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh; Digalwar, Abhijeet K.Today companies are facing important challenges such as the need to reduce the time-to-market, the development cost and manufacturing cost, or the management of products with more and more technology. As a result, this current situation is encouraging the implementation of world class manufacturing and new management techniques such as knowledge management (KM) to increase competitive advantage. Many researchers theoretically justified the role and benefits of knowledge management in world class manufacturing. In this study an attempt has been made to empirically examine the role and benefits of knowledge management in world class manufacturingItem Development and validation of performance measures for world class manufacturing practices in India(World Scientific, 2007) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh; Digalwar, Abhijeet K.This paper aims to develop and validate performance measures for world class manufacturing (WCM) in Indian context that could be used by managers/ practitioners in assessing and improving their manufacturing performance. Using a thorough synthesis of the world class manufacturing literature, sixteen performance measures — top management commitment, knowledge management, employee training, innovation and technology, employee empowerment, environmental health and safety, supplier management, production planning and control, quality, flexibility, speed, cost, customer involvement, customer satisfaction, customer services and company growth — of world class manufacturing and their 89 variables have been developed. Using the data obtained from a survey of manufacturing industries in India, the identified performance measures were subjected to appropriate statistical tests to establish reliability and validity. Statistical computing package SPSS 11.5 for Windows was used for reliability and validity analysis. The validated instrument of world class manufacturing measures developed here may be used by manufacturing organizations to prioritise their management efforts to assess and implement WCM. The validated results are in Indian context, however, the instrument developed can be used in global context.Item An overview of existing performance measurement frameworks in the context of world class manufacturing performance measurement(Inder Science, 2011-05) Sangwan, Kuldip Singh; Digalwar, Abhijeet K.Performance measurement plays a significant role in order to sustain an improved performance. An enterprise’s measurement system strongly affects the behaviour of people, both inside and outside. If organisations are to survive and prosper in information age competition, they must use a measurement system derived from their strategies and capabilities. As enterprises introduce world class manufacturing (WCM) techniques, they need new methods of performance measurement to control and improve their production plants. Recent studies provide a useful framework for performance measurement and strategic alignment. The paper first highlights the imperatives of a performance measurement system for manufacturing excellence then discusses existing performance measurement systems and their limitations in measuring world class manufacturing performance. Finally, the paper suggests that there is a need to develop a new performance measurement system and proposed a framework for world class manufacturing performance measurement.
