Whether models of teaching/learning would have to evolve through disruption or perish in future? That is the motivation for our study which seeks to understand in depth, the values of post-millennial higher education students and suggest consequently a broad contour of academic structure that might accommodate their preferences. We purposely select a sample cohort of brightest Generation Z students of an eminent technological university who can articulate freely their deepest feelings and perceptions about their hopes and fears. Through qualitative research tools we obtain their rich inputs to propose a model of teaching /learning based upon four superordinate Generation Z values (viz. instrumental – career & passions; terminal – success & happiness) in the context of higher education. Finally, we propose a framework for change of educational organizations in terms of their curriculum, pedagogy and culture.Item Changing Paradigms in Training Methods: A Bibliometric Review(CRC Press, 2023) Mahesh, JayashreeThe study aims to understand changing paradigm in training methods from traditional to modern. 713 articles were retrieved from the Scopus database and a bibliometric analysis of the training methods was conducted. Further, this study also seeks to analyze the outcomes of various training methods. The main objective of the study is to understand the most relevant training techniques in this current volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) work environment. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses bibliometric data and VOSviewer user interfaces to perform several types of analyses on the data taken from the Scopus database (the largest interdisciplinary database in social sciences). Based on journal citations, well-known authors, popular search terms, and publications in many industries, we chose 713 articles. Findings: From the content analysis, it has been observed that the pandemic has caused a significant shift in training methods across the majority of sectors. Many industries are adopting modern training approaches including simulation, e-learning, virtual training, blended learning, etc. because of their favorable effects on employee engagement, performance, and knowledge acquisition. Contribution of the Study: Our study identifies the most effective training methods that can be implemented in various sectors. Further, the study emphasizes the various benefits of different training methods so that practitioners can choose the best training technique which fulfills their organizational objectives. 190 Originality/value: Based on the extensive literature review, this is one of the few papers on training methods for the past 10 years that has indicated the shift in training methods from traditional to modern in different sectors. In addition to being relevant for the practitioners, it will also set the agenda for future research.Item Convergence of management practices in India’s IT sector with an a priori validation(Emerald, 2018-12) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Mahesh, JayashreeThe purpose of this paper is to document similarities and differences between management practices of different types of organizations in India’s IT sector through an empirical survey. The authors expected these differences to be significant enough for us to be able to group a priori this set of companies meaningfully through cluster analysis on the basis of the similarity of their management practices alone.Item Creating Mindfulness at Stressed Environment Work-Places through a Self-Training Intervention(Academy of Management, 2021-06) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Mahesh, JayashreeDoes it take a pandemic to make us realize when our mind is full of anxiety and when we need to protect ourselves by being alert in a state of mindfulness at stressed environment workplaces? With an explosion of scholarly interest in the concept of mindfulness and its uniqueness from the allied concepts in management learning, the effectiveness of organizational mindfulness interventions need further investigation (Reb and Atkins, 2015). There is a lack of convenient and effective mindfulness interventions that could be applied at the futuristic workplaces (Lomas et al., 2017). We attempt to design and test a self-training mindfulness intervention. In this paper we discuss at the outset the importance of mindfulness in constantly evolving organizations and then outline our research study where the effectiveness of the designed self-training intervention is statistically tested. Our intervention comprises of a 4-week module that was introduced among a group of 117 respondents that included doctors, nurses and medical staff from a government hospital. Their mindfulness scores were recorded before and after the implementation of the 4 weeks’ intervention module using the MAAS (Mindfulness Attention and Awareness Scale). The results indicate that the mindfulness intervention caused a significant increase in the mindfulness quotient enhancing overall employee wellbeing. This intervention can be an important tool in enhancing the wellbeing of employees in current organizations that are shrouded by high levels of uncertainty and stress.Item Education of Generation Z: A Systematic Review and Research Directions(ICON-BITS 2021, 2022-02) Mahesh, JayashreeThe purpose of this paper is to gain an understanding of existing research and debate regarding the requirements expectations and attitudes of Education for Generation Z using the technique of Systematic Literature Review. The Review has been done by systematically collecting the existing literature between 2003 and 2020. The literature is categorised according to Geographical Distribution and types of studies undertaken. Literature is also categorised based on the type of study. A disciplined screening process resulted in 41 relevant research papers appropriate for the study. As these papers explain the emerging trends in the discipline since 2003, it can serve as a base for researchers who wish to conduct a meta-analysis about Generation Z. It would also enable establishing a framework for further empirical research. Due to the vast nature of topics related to the education of Generation Z, it is not possible to study the entire discipline in a single study. Hence the study only focuses on relevant and emerging trends about education for Generation Z. The study aims to fill the gap of unavailability of a structured systematic literature review in the domain of education of Generation Z. This serves as an important source of information for academicians, practitioners. The study postulates new avenues for future research. The study contributes to the methodology for conducting Systematic Literature. Reviews in the field of teaching and learning, specifically for the education of Generation Z. It highlights an effective method for mapping out thematically and viewing holistically emerging research trends.Item Fostering holistic growth: insights for women’s leadership development in academia(Springer, 2024-07) Mahesh, JayashreeThe paper presents the outcomes of an experimental women’s leadership program designed to understand the expectations and gather feedback to create future leadership development initiatives for women in academia. The study identifies implications at individual and organizational levels, emphasizing the significance of self-development and the implementation of effective policies, practices, and career advancement strategies. The key recommendation is to enhance support mechanisms by introducing new mentoring networks through personalized one-on-one action plan sessions. A novel contribution of the study is the proposal to integrate service-learning into the leadership development framework. By incorporating service-learning, participants can develop strategic thinking and networking skills while contributing to positive societal impact. This inclusion not only fosters institutional change but also empowers individuals to engage meaningfully with their communities, thus enhancing the program’s overall relevance and efficacy within academic settings.Item From theory to practice: enhancing responsible business management through service learning(Elsevier, 2025-12) Mahesh, JayashreeSustainability education is central to cultivating ethical leadership and responsible management. Despite global frameworks such as the PRME and the SDGs, many higher education institutions struggle to meaningfully embed sustainability within curricula. This study introduces a novel, constructively aligned service-learning (SL) framework—grounded in Biggs’ theory—as a specific pedagogical innovation for responsible management education. Adopting a robust, multi-method approach—including bibliometric analysis, integrative literature review, focus groups, and a nationwide survey—this research ensures methodological rigor and triangulation. The framework promotes the development of critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills through experiential SL projects, directly aligning with the demands of sustainability-driven management education. Findings reveal key barriers—such as faculty engagement gaps, limited benchmarking, and insufficient cross-sector collaboration—hindering the scalability of SL in business education. Focus group discussions and survey validation demonstrate that structured SL initiatives enhance SDG-driven problem-solving. By aligning learning outcomes, instructional strategies, and assessment methods with PRME and SDGs, this framework advances responsible management and sustainability in higher education, offering actionable guidelines for curriculum design and policymaking. By offering a robust model for PRME signatories and other institutions, this framework shows that embedding sustainability in business education is both practical and essential for advancing responsible management.Item Future-forward education: a multi-stakeholder approach to gen Z learning(Academy of Management, 2024-07) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Mahesh, JayashreeThis paper explores the evolving landscape of higher education in response to the unique characteristics and expectations of Generation Z students. The authors emphasize the need for a comprehensive framework that aligns teaching methods with the preferences of Gen Z, addressing challenges in pedagogy and learning. The futuristic learning framework adopted in the study proposes a multi-stakeholder systems approach, considering input from students, faculty, and administrators. This study provides an integrative literature review, drawing insights from 185 papers categorized into 13 key areas. It reviews the influence of societal shifts on educational approaches to generate new insights for the educational framework and covers diverse aspects including managing student expectations, addressing faculty needs, delivering subject matter, developing evaluation methods, and understanding industry requirements among others. It delves into transformational learning methods tailored for Gen Z, including content delivery, pedagogical techniques, and innovative e-learning technologies. The framework also highlights the importance of aligning educational outcomes with industry and other regulatory requirements, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, and integrating contributions to society. The paper concludes by highlighting the need to introduce experiential pedagogy, specifically Service Learning to enrich Gen Z's learning experience, preparing them for leadership roles and societal responsibilities thereby helping them to self-actualize.Item Identifying antecedents and outcomes of employee well-being and its implications during Covid times(WAW196, 2022) Mahesh, JayashreeIn recent times, there have been substantial changes in the context in which work is carried out. Technological advancement, the process of globalization, heterogeneity in the workforce, increase in competition, increase in the number of women in the workforce, are some of the changes that have influenced the work environment. Employee well-being is under increasing threat due to the pressures at work and in society, and hence there is a strong ethical case for focusing on employee well-being. In addition to this, the Covid pandemic has posed severe challenges to organisations and employees. People in low-paid, self-employed, or insecure occupations experienced the greatest impact due to loss of work or the temporary closure of their business. Heightened feelings of anxiety and depression were reported along with fear of post-lockdown anxiety and paranoia. The largest stressor was an overarching feeling of loss (loss of income, routine or social interaction). This paper aims to focus on identifying and systematically analysing the literature published on employee well-being from 2015 to 2021. Specifically, it aims to answer two questions: “Q1 – What are the antecedents and outcomes related to employee well-being?” and “Q2 – How can the findings of this research be used to further research in the domain of employee well-being?”. The five stages suggested by Denyer and Tranfield, (2009) for systematic literature review have been followed. Training & Development, Job design, Workplace Environment, Participative management, and Organisation support were identified as antecedents that address the above concerns of the employees. It was also found that the psychological perception of an employee has a significant positive impact on the relationship between job design and employee performance. A significant relationship was found between workplace environment and job performance, where work motivation mediated this relationship. Participation in workplace decision-making and employee voice behaviour have a positive impact on employee well-being. In addition to this, there were also findings in the literature related to well-being that could have important ramifications in the current Covid times.Item Mapping Pedagogical Tools to Cognitive Processes for Effective Learning Design for Post-millennials(ICON-BITS 2021, 2022-02) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Mahesh, JayashreePost-millennial generation of students form a sizeable portion in higher education and expect the learning environment to be different from their earlier generations. This necessitates a paradigm shift in higher education from a teacher-centric environment to a learner-centric or learner-controlled environment. It is important to identify pedagogical tools and methods to keep this generation of students engaged. The main purpose of this study is to identify the best teaching-learning pedagogy to create an active learning experience for post-millennial students in higher education.Item Sarcasm detection in news headlines using supervised learning(Springer, 2024-07) Mahesh, JayashreeThe traditional work environment has seen remarkable changes as a result of the paradigm shift towards remote work, that has had a significant impact on employee well-being. This paper aims to use the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), to methodologically examine the factors affecting employee well-being in remote work contexts. By synthesizing data from 14 remote workers, this study aims to rank key factors and sub-factors that are identified with the help of content analysis. Through the AHP methodology, the relative importance of these factors is determined, which sheds light on their impact on the overall well-being of remote employees. On the basis of the results, the factors can be ranked in order- mental health support, work-life balance, physical well-being, social connection, and leadership engagement. The top five rated priority sub-factors are the promotion of mindfulness, defined boundaries, stress management, healthy eating awareness, and support for managing workload. The contribution of this research is to provide valuable insights for organizations and decision-makers to formulate strategies and initiatives to foster a supportive and conducive remote work environment, ultimately enhancing productivity and employee well-being.Item Trends in Organizational Behavior: A Systematic Review and Research Directions(Scope, 2020-03) Mahesh, JayashreeThe purpose of this paper is to present a step-by-step guide to facilitate understanding of emerging trends in the discipline of Organizational Behavior using the technique of Systematic Literature Review. Method – Literature review is done by systematically collecting the existing literature over the period of 1990- 2019. The literature is categorized according to the Journal Name and Ranking, Database, and Geographical Distribution (country wise). Literature is also categorized on the basis of type of study (empirical/conceptual), variables used, scales used, sample studies and sub area of study (Leadership/Motivation etc). This classification can serve as a base for researchers who wish to conduct meta-analysis on emerging trends in Organizational Behavior.Item Work Environment: A Review of Established Scales from 50 Years of Literature(CRC Press, 2023) Mahesh, JayashreeThe physical environment, social dynamics, and work settings significantly impact employees’ morale, productivity, well-being, and job satisfaction. Thus, it is crucial to conduct research related to the work environment of the employees and use well-formulated scales to conduct such research. The purpose of this paper is to review the scales related to the work environment domain and identify their significance in the literature. The literature of 149 articles was extracted from the SCOPUS database using the keywords “Work Environment Scales” and analysed through content analysis. It has been observed that the scales of the work environment are widely used in business and other fields such as healthcare, education, etc. According to the literature, no holistic study has been done to compile and present the various validated scales of work environment that have been established and verified. Therefore, this study attempts to provide a glimpse of prominent work environment scales used during 19752022. The findings of the study show that similarities and differences in scales depend on the context, industry, and research domain. These findings will help future academicians, practitioners, and managers to determine the suitable scales for their research setting and get insight into the commonalities and differences among various industries. Additionally, corporate organizations can use these insights to improve their context-specific efficiency and effectiveness.
