An Empirical Study on Supply Chain Risk Management Strategies in Indian Automobile Industry
(SSRN, 2015-08) Sharma, Satyendra Kumar; Bhat, Anil Kumar; Routroy, Srikanta
Supply chain disruptions, major or minor, have affected supply chains negatively. Literature shows that supply chain disruptions also lead to reduction in shareholder value. Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) has become a concern for boardrooms, and companies have started to think how they can better manage their supply chains to survive and continue operations. This paper provides insights into SCRM in Indian automobile sector. Strategies used to deal with supply chain risks are explored in this paper. First a taxonomy is suggested based on the review of the extant literature, i.e., proactive strategies, coping strategies, aligning strategies, early warning strategies and survival strategies. These strategies are then empirically tested in the context of Indian automobile industry. A total SCRM strategy index is calculated and the status of Indian automobile industry in SCRM is discussed.

research-article Analysis of Factors Influencing Negative e-Word of Mouth in Online Social Media Marketing
    (ICSEB, 2019-12) Bhat, Anil Kumar
The advent of online social media (OSM) marketing necessitates further examination of existent studies on the negative word of mouth (NWOM). Earlier studies have focused mostly on the effect of consumption of NWOM. The present research paper, on the other hand, strives to find out the influence of various factors that may motivate users of the OSM to propagate NWOM through these platforms. The results of the study confirm that external motivation factor -- Deal Proneness - significantly induces electronic NWOM (e-NWOM). Also, the moderation effect of Deal Proneness on the relationship between N-eWOM and the factors influencing e-NWOM is discussed.

An empirical investigation of the contribution of supply chain design characteristics on supply chain risks in Indian automobile industry
(Inder Science, 2012) Sharma, Satyendra Kumar; Bhat, Anil Kumar
The importance of supply chain risk management is attracting the attention of academicians and business managers globally. As companies experience globalisation and cut throat competition, companies are forced to adopt measures to contain risk due to their supply chain design characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to identify supply chain design characteristics and investigate their relationship with overall supply chain risk. This research presents the empirical investigation of supply chain risk drivers. Analysis of responses from 102 executives from Indian automobile industry, give an insight into the relationship between key supply chain risk drivers viz. (supply chain complexity, focus on efficiency, dependence on few members and node criticality), and supply chain risks.

Identification and assessment of supply chain risk: development of AHP model for supply chain risk prioritisation
(Inder Science, 2012-11) Sharma, Satyendra Kumar; Bhat, Anil Kumar
In modern times, competition has shifted from companies to supply chains and risk management has become one of the greatest challenge for supply chain managers. Risks affect supply chain performance hence supply chain risk assessment needs more attention. For this reason, this paper presents a general risks taxonomy and it gathers together, specifically the risks affecting the performance of an automotive supply chain. Further, the authors use analytic hierarchy process (AHP) methodology to analyse the risk factors. It is hoped, that this analysis will help managers, vendors, consultants and auditors to manage supply chain risks better. All risks that a supply chain might face have been identified, classified and ranked based on their risk exposure on supply chain. Results suggest that the most critical risks originate from supply side of the chain. The most important risks in automotive supply chain turn out to be volatile demand, financial failure of suppliers, supplier’s quality problems and failure to generate cost reduction.

The relationship of attitude constructs in behaviour adoption towards alleviation of nutritional anaemia
(Inder Science, 2013-01) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Bhat, Sanjana
A before-and-after study on awareness, comprehension and attitude in behaviour adoption towards nutritional anaemia was undertaken in adolescents studying in a residential and a day school. The students were divided into groups and subjected to the direct and indirect methods of intervention. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect the information both before and after the intervention. Results were analysed using paired t-test of difference between means. Direct method of intervention in a residential school setting led to a statistically significant increase in awareness about anaemia. The indirect method of intervention led to a statistically significant increase in awareness in those areas that involved transfer of simple information. Neither the direct nor the indirect method of intervention in either setting (residential or day school) showed any statistically significant increase in comprehension/behaviour intention to change as these seem more complex and difficult to change and require an attitudinal change through other methods.

Potential barriers in supply chain risk management: an empirical exploration in Indian automotive industry
(IDEAS is a RePEc, 2012) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Sharma, Satyendra Kumar
Supply chain risk management (SCRM) needs to become reality to improve bottom line and to get competitive advantage. However, lack of awareness and understanding of barriers in SCRM implementation hinders the realising benefits of SCRM. This study identifies barriers in Indian automobile industry and how these barriers discriminate firms on their SCRM maturity level were explored using discriminant analysis. Research shows relative importance of SCRM barriers that might be useful for SCM or risk managers in automotive firms to make a plan for reducing the barriers. Thus, managers can address important barriers first and assure success of SCRM

An empirical exploration of supply chain design factors and their influence on supply chain performance
(IDEAS is a RePEc, 2013) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Sharma, Satyendra Kumar
Supply chain management has become a competitive tool for companies to increase their profitability and supply chain performance is getting the attention of business executives. They have started to focus on various factors, (that are) responsible for supply chain performance. We present an extant literature review on various factors that enable supply chain performance. Further, we conducted a survey in the Indian automobile industry and have attempted to test empirically the relationship between various supply chain design factors and supply chain performance. Factors such as aligning incentives, integration, adaptability and contingency planning were found to be most important factors. However, similar studies need be conducted in other industries to generalise the findings of our survey.

Underlying Dimensions of Purchase Decision Process for Consumer Durables: A Confirmation of the Customer - Value Hierarchy Model
(Indian Journal of Marketing, 2013-05) Bhat, Anil Kumar; Matai, Rajesh
The purpose of this study was to find out the dimensions (factors) that customers use in deciding about purchasing a consumer durable, more specifically, a color television. A thirteen item questionnaire was used to elicit responses from 100 potential customers in the city of Jaipur. Factor analysis (data reduction technique) was applied on the collected data. It resulted in the emergence of five factors viz. Core Features; Reliability and Cost; Ease of Operation; Memory, Aesthetic, and Response features; Brand Performance and New features. This seems to confirm the customer - value hierarchy model of five product levels namely Core Benefit, Basic Product, Expected Product, Augmented Product, and Potential Product as these levels match with the earlier five factors presented in the research study. The implication of this study is the continued relevance of looking at a consumer durable as a five layered product offering.
